Experts from the Institute of Automotive Market Research analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine in 2024 and identified the top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: used imports, domestic resales, and first new registrations.
Semi-trailer market dynamics
The segment of semi-trailers did not show growth last year, all sub-segments showed negative dynamics. Accordingly, a similar picture is observed in the related segment of semi-trailers. Over the past year, Ukrainian carriers purchased 24.8 thousand new and used semi-trailers. This 35.3% less than in 2023.
By individual subsegments, the dynamics of semi-trailer trades, compared to the results of 2023, looks as follows:
- Domestic resales: −25.4%
- Imports of used cars: −45.4%
- Imports of new: −49.9%
- Made in Ukraine: −30.3%
Last year, 59.1% of all semi-trailers were purchased on the domestic market (14.6 thousand transactions). 8.2 thousand used semi-trailers were imported from abroad, which amounted to 33.2% of the total volume.
7.7% of semi-trailers (1,902 units) were purchased new. Of this number, 329 were manufactured in Ukraine.
The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market
The most popular category here was dump trucks, with container trucks and flatbed truck options also in demand.
Among manufacturers, the leader in the domestic market was the German Shmitz Cargobull — 3,168 pieces of this brandʼs products were purchased.
The second and third places were also taken by German brands — Krone (1,655 units) and Kögel (1,542 units), respectively.
The most popular used semi-trailers imported from abroad
Among the "freshly introduced" semi-trailers, the most popular were the tented variants, with dump trucks and refrigerators competing with each other with a slight difference throughout the year. Other types are in the minority.

The first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers imported from abroad was the Shmitz Cargobull brand with a total of 3,447 first registrations.
Krone products came in second place (1,057 units). Kögel came in third place (754 units).
Most popular new semi-trailers
In this group, dump trucks are the most popular type. Refrigerators are the second most popular, and tented versions are in third place.
The ranking of new semi-trailer manufacturers was confidently led by Shmitz Cargobull (675 units). Wielton came in second place (193 units), and Everlast came in third with 155 units.
