Experts from the Institute of Auto Market Research analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine and identified the most popular models in three segments of trucks weighing over 3.5 tons (except for tractor units) : used imports, domestic resales, and purchases of new cars, including those converted in Ukraine.
Truck market dynamics
The market volume of trucks with a gross weight of over 3,500 kg in 2024 amounted to 30.7 thousand units. Compared to the overall result in 2023, the segment grew by 8.6%.
It is worth noting that in terms of domestic resales, this is a virtual, “table” growth, since the statistics included a lot of car reregistration operations in the spring, which arose due to changes in the rules for mobilizing vehicles from citizens, who in turn massively reregistered “extra” vehicles (i.e. those that are second, third, etc.) to other persons. When you look at the market activity diagram, you can see that the volumes of the domestic market here have been steadily decreasing since the middle of last year.
The structure of this segment is as follows: 80.9% (24,845 units) — domestic resales, 8.2% (2,512 units) — imports of used trucks. 3.9% (1,208 units) — imports of new trucks, 7% (2,143 units) — sales of trucks manufactured (or converted in the factory) in Ukraine. The total share of new vehicles in this group is 10.9%.
The dynamics by individual subsegments, the shares of which were just given, compared to 2023, are as follows:
- Domestic resales: +5.3%
- Imports of used cars: +8.4%
- New imports: +88.5%
- Made in Ukraine: +25%
Top 10 trucks in the domestic market
The most popular type in this subsegment was dump trucks, with stable demand for vans and flatbed versions.
Among individual models, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter took first place, the Mercedes-Benz Atego came in second, and the KamAZ 5511 came in third (with a barely noticeable gap from a similar model).
Top 10 imported trucks with mileage
Most often, the Ukrainian fleet was replenished last year with tail lift vans, vans, and container trucks.

The top three new arrivals trucks look like this: Mercedes-Benz Atego in first place, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in second, and Iveco Daily in third position.
Top 10 new trucks
Among new trucks with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tons, the greatest demand was observed for vans, dump trucks, and various special equipment, of which truck cranes were the largest in number.
Among individual models, the leader was the Citroen Jumper, the second position was held by the Renault Master, and the third was a collection van based on the Ford Transit, which after conversion received the new VD C3/M3 FTCC index.
In general, among the new 3.5+T class trucks, the most popular models were mainly various special vehicles converted (or retrofitted) by local enterprises based on imported chassis from other automakers.
