New passenger car market in Ukraine — results of 2024

During 2024, Ukrainians and local enterprises purchased 68.8 thousand new passenger cars. Compared to 2023, we have an increase in sales of +9.2%.

Overall, over the past 12 months, dealers sold an average of about 5.7 thousand new cars each month. The peak in August on the chart was caused by reports of a possible introduction of an additional 15% tax on cars, which prompted some buyers to make a purchase decision sooner than planned. The tax was never introduced, and the excitement on the chart was recorded.

Dynamics of the new passenger car market, 2024

The majority of new passenger cars, as usual (95.5%, 65,667 units), were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine was 4.5% (3,084 units).

Among the brands, the most cars with Toyota, Renault, and Volkswagen emblems were submitted for first registration. Here are the Top 10 manufacturers according to the results of last year:

Among individual models, Renault Duster and Toyota RAV4 were the most frequently left showrooms. The difference in quantity between the following participants is much greater in relation to the leaders of this Top 10, but much smaller between them. With such a relatively small contrast, only a few dozen (less than a monthly volume) cars had an impact on the final annual position of the model in the list. Which, in the end, can be explained by considerable competition between a number of crossovers of the same size (and sometimes price) class. Among all the “jeeps” in the top ten most popular cars, only one sedan remained — Toyota Camry. Given how rapidly the popularity of SUV cars is growing in our market, it is quite likely that next year we will be looking for a sedan or hatchback in the top thirty finalists of the year.

Among the new cars that were registered as being manufactured in Ukraine (quantitatively included in the overall rating), the leader in sales was the Skoda Kodiaq crossover (1003 units), which is produced at the Transcarpathian Eurocar plant. The second place in the products of the same enterprise is the Skoda Karoq (694 units). The next steps were divided among cars converted by local enterprises for various special purposes (ordered by the police, medical services, etc.).
