Average age, mileage and prices: what cars were sold in January in different regions of Ukraine?

The Institute for Car Market Research publishes a statistical overview of newly created car sales ads for January 2025. The report includes data from all Ukrainian online platforms for the sale of automotive equipment, combined and cleaned of duplicates, thanks to information provided by the Automoto.ua portal.

Number of ads and regional activity

In the first month of 2025, more than 206 thousand new ads for the sale of cars were placed on the market. The largest number of offers came from the Kyiv region together with the capital — 37,165 ads (18% of the total). In second place is the Lviv region with 19,326 ads (9.4%), and the third place is taken by the Dnipropetrovsk region with 17,698 ads (8.6%).

The three regions with the least activity were Luhansk (35 ads), Kherson (614 ads), and Donetsk (2,687 ads) regions.

Average age, price and mileage in sales offers in selected regions

Average car characteristics by region

The average age of cars put up for sale varies from 14.6 years in Lviv region to 22.6 years in Donetsk region. This indicator is directly influenced by the number of “freshly imported” cars (i.e. imported from abroad) that are sold in a particular region. Since Lviv region is the “gateway to Europe”, the car “importing” business is developed there, which gives such a lower average age.

The average mileage also fluctuates: the lowest is 183 thousand km in the Kyiv region, and the highest is 228 thousand km in the Donetsk region. However, this is a relatively small range — one way or another, this parameter is kept close to the “psychological marketing limit” of 200 thousand kilometers. Even if the average age in the region is over 20 years.

In terms of price indicators, the most expensive cars were offered in the Kyiv region and the capital (average price — $8,590), and the cheapest — in the Kherson region (average price — $2,650). In total, the total cost of cars put up for sale in the Kyiv region exceeded $523 million, while in the Luhansk region it was only $0.2 million.

Market trends

Data analysis shows uneven activity of the automobile market in different regions of Ukraine. The highest activity is demonstrated by economically developed regions with large cities, which are the main centers of car buying and selling. At the same time, regions with fewer ads face low levels of economic activity and demand for cars.

The significant gap in the average age and mileage of cars, as well as in the average cost, indicates regional peculiarities of automotive supply and demand. For example, in Donetsk, Kherson and Luhansk regions, due to military operations and economic difficulties, mostly cheaper and older cars are put up for sale. While in Kyiv and Lviv, which have higher purchasing power, demand is shifting towards newer and more expensive models.
