Change in the average age of passenger cars in Ukraine: December 2023 vs December 2024

The Institute for Automotive Market Research has prepared an analysis of the average age of passenger cars offered for sale on Ukrainian classifieds sites based on data from the aggregator Automoto.ua, which collects information from all classifieds sites for the sale of automotive equipment in Ukraine. The diagram reflects changes in this indicator over the past 13 months, and we will focus on key points of comparison.

Average age of used cars in ads by month

Dynamics for the year: we have reached the starting point

The average age of passenger cars in December 2024 was 16.2 years, which is identical to December 2023. During the period under study, there were fluctuations (more on that later), but in the end everything returned to the "starting" point. This indicates the relative stability of the market in terms of the age structure of cars presented per year.

Dynamics per month: from minimum to average value

Compared to November 2024, when the average age of cars reached 15.7 years (the minimum indicator for the period), in December 2024 the indicator increased by 0.5 years. This demonstrates a temporary “rejuvenation” of offers in November, which did not last long. Usually, a similar picture is observed when there is a certain decrease in the sales rate of “freshly driven” cars, which have a lower average age, which, in fact, happened in November.

Minimum and maximum values

During the analyzed period, the minimum value of the average age of cars was recorded in November 2024 — 15.7 years, and the maximum — in May 2024, when this indicator reached 17.3 years. This indicates a noticeable dynamics of the age characteristics of cars during the year.

Overall, the used car market in Ukraine demonstrates stability with noticeable seasonal fluctuations.
