Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations and identified the most popular brands in three segments: used import, domestic resale, and among new motorcycles.
Dynamics of the motorcycle market
In the motorcycle segment, the expected seasonal decrease in the pace of sales came in the fall. So, in November, Ukrainians bought 4.1 thousand of all motorcycles. This is 12.6% less than a month earlier, in October of this year, but significantly 30.3% more than a year ago, in November 2023.
Among the total number, 62.7% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), in quantity, this is 2,574 units.
On the domestic market, 1,228 sales and purchase agreements for motor vehicles were concluded, which accounted for 29.9% of the total number.
Only 7.4% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (303 units).
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of motorcycle sales (where seasonality is very clearly expressed, and the primary importance is the year-to-year comparison) looks as follows (comparing last month to the month before it, M-M; and last month to the same month last year year, YY):
- Domestic resales: -32.0% MM, +14.8% YY
- Used imports: -28.5% MM, -14.4% YY
- New imports: +4.3% MM, +49.0% YY
While in all other parts of the Ukrainian car market there is a decrease in volumes, in the segment of motorcycles there has been an increase in the interest of buyers in this type of transport. Contrary to seasonality, we have an increase in domestic resales and new motorcycle trades, which are particularly noticeable year-on-year.
The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market
In the domestic market, the Japanese brands Honda (125 sales contracts) and Yamaha (113 DKPs) prevailed among motorcycle manufacturers in the specified period, and also Lifan (84 DKP).
The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad
Imports of motorcycles with mileage continue to be held by the Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. The products of these three manufacturers cover a significant part of the segment, to be precise — 67.9% of the two-wheeled motor vehicle market.
The most popular new motorcycles
New motorcycles of Chinese manufacturers are mainly bought in Ukraine: in November, Spark (434 first registrations), Musstang (362 registrations), and Forte (314 registrations) became the leaders once again. In total, the share of Chinese products was 84% in the market of new motorcycles.
