The market of new passenger cars in Ukraine: part of September was included in the August record

In August, Ukrainians and local enterprises purchased 8,100 new cars. This is a significant 34.7% more than in July of the same year, and 34.6% more than a year ago in August 2023. We will remind you that until now the record of trades (within the current year) was set in March (6.5 thousand), but now it has been confidently broken by the results of August.

However, this should not be associated with the natural growth of trades — rather, we have a kind of "statistical hill", which, very likely, will turn into a "statistical pit" this month. The increase in the number of new cars sold was caused by the information wave about the possible introduction of an additional 15% tax on the first registration of cars, which prompted about 30% of buyers to accelerate decision-making regarding the purchase of cars that were planned for the following periods in the calendars. In addition, we should not reject the assumption that some of the new cars were submitted for the first registration not because their actual sale took place, but in order to put them on the records of their own employees, in order to later sell these cars bypassing the additional fee. Therefore, it turns out that the August record included "future" sales that took place faster than planned.

As usual, the majority of new cars in July (95.7%, 7765 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 4.3% (353 units).

Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals (72.9%, 5919 units), legal entities bought 2199 cars, which is a share of 27.1%.

Among the brands, cars with Toyota, Renault and BMW emblems were the most submitted for first registration. Here are the Top 10 manufacturers according to the results of last month:

1. Toyota — 1185 pcs.
2. Renault — 660 pcs.
3. BMW — 650 pcs.
4. Volkswagen — 526 pcs.
5. Skoda — 421 pcs.
6. Nissan — 404 pcs.
7. Hyundai — 352 pcs.
8. Mazda — 320 pcs.
9. BYD — 307 pcs.
10. Kia — 280 pcs.

Among the individual models, Renault Duster, Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 left the car showrooms most often. Here are the Top 10 most popular new cars of August:

1. Renault Duster — 567 pcs.
2. Toyota RAV4 — 456 pcs.
3. Mazda CX-5 — 276 pcs.
4. Toyota Camry — 229 pcs.
5. KIA Sportage — 223 pcs.
6. Hyundai Tucson — 186 pcs.
7. BYD Song Plus — 179 pcs.
8. Volkswagen Touareg — 177 pcs.
9. Honda M-NV — 174 pcs.
10. Skoda Kodiaq — 166 pcs.

In the list of new passenger cars converted or manufactured in Ukraine and registered in August (quantitatively, they are included in the overall rating), the most popular are Skoda Kodiaq (164 units) and Skoda Karoq (95 units), which are produced at the Transcarpathian Evrocar plant. The following seats were divided between cars converted by local enterprises for various special purposes.
