Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in July and identified the 20 most popular models of small commercial vehicles in three segments: import of used cars, domestic resale and purchase of new cars.
LCV market dynamics
In July, Ukrainians purchased a total of 6,000 light commercial vehicles with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons. Which is 14.9% more than in the same period last year, but 3.9% less than in June 2024.
We will remind that in April and May, the active "rewriting" of motor vehicles continued, caused by the new law on mobilization, which provides for the potential seizure of vehicles for defense purposes if the owner, an individual, has more than one vehicle in his possession. Since citizens own a lot of "buses" and passenger vans that belong to the LCV group, the wave of re-registration of second and more cars of this type to relatives or acquaintances also affected the segment we are considering. If you look at the diagram, you can clearly see the peak of these re-registrations, after which the indicators return to close to average statistical values.
The majority of sales of small commercial cars usually took place on the domestic market — 4.7 thousand (78.2%).
888 used cars belonging to the LCV group (14.8%) were brought from abroad.
420 new imported LCVs were registered, of which 55 were converted Ukrainian enterprises from imported chassis or machine sets. Overall, new LCV sales accounted for 7% of the total number of small commercial vehicles purchased.
The most popular LCVs in the domestic market
The largest demand on the domestic market remains for used vans (3.2 thousand units). Other types, as usual, are less popular. In particular, low-tonnage vans (380 units), cargo-passenger units (198 units), on-board (176 units), and on-board awning (151 units) cars.
Among individual models , the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (739 units) has held the unchanging lead in the domestic market for many years in a row. Since 1995, when the "Sprinter" appeared on the market replacing the "beads" of the T1 series, Ukrainian carriers have preferred this rather versatile and hardy (letʼs ignore the question of corrosion resistance of the body) car. On our roads, it can be found in a variety of roles — from a cargo van to a city "router" or even a tourist minibus.
