Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in June and identified the top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.
Dynamics of the semi-trailer market
As the truck segment saw a significant volume decline in June, it would be surprising to see the opposite picture in the related semi-trailer segment. During the past month, Ukrainians purchased 2,100 new and used semi-trailers. It by 45.8% less than in the same period last year in 2023, and by 25% less than in May 2024.
By individual sub-segments, the dynamics of semi-trailer trade is as follows (comparing last month to the month before it, MM, and last month to the same month last year, YY):
- Domestic resales: -25.6% MM, -36.8% YY
- Used import: -34.2% MM, -60.3% YY
- New imports: +22.4% MM, -48.0% YY
- Made in Ukraine: +269.2% M-M, +17.1% YY
According to the results of June, 64.5% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1313 deals). 561 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which was 27.3% of the total number.
8.7% of semi-trailers (179 units) were purchased new. Of this number, 148 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 131 pcs. were imported new from abroad.
The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market
The largest demand on the domestic market in June remained for tipper semi-trailers. 29.4%, or 386 units, purchased these. quantitatively Container carriers (181 pcs., 13.8%) and on-board awnings (145 pcs., 11%) do not lose their popularity.
On-board versions (125 units, 9.5%) and awning semi-trailers (120 units, 9.1%) also made it to the Top 5.
Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader in the domestic market of semi-trailers. Among all semi-trailers, they were 21.7% (285 units).
The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (152 units, 11.6%) and Koegel (129 units, 9.8%), respectively.
Polish Wielton is in fourth place (63 units, 4.8%), Austrian Schwarzmuller is in fifth place (62 units, 4.7%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad
During June 2024, the most frequently imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers (177 units, 31.6%), dump trucks (99 units, 17.6%) and refrigerators (81 units, 14.4%).
Tented platforms (66 units, 11.8%) and container carriers (36 units, 6.4%) were also among the five most popular types.

Manufacturers: the Shmitz brand once again topped the list of the most popular used semi-trailers imported from abroad. Its share was 40.5% (227 units).
Second place was taken by Krone products (70 units, 12.5%). Koegel was in third place (38 units, 6.8%), Stas was in fourth place (19 units, 3.4%).
Wielton closes the top five with a total of 18 units, and a share in its segment of 3.2%.

The most popular new semi-trailers
Refrigerators (42 units, 23.5%) and dump trucks (39 units, 21.8%) accounted for the majority of all new semi-trailers purchased in June.
Tankers for dangerous goods in their market segment occupied 14% (25 units), platforms were sold in the amount of 21 units. which is a share of 11.7%, respectively, this brings the mentioned brands to the third and fourth places. The fifth number in the list by types belongs to awning options (19 units, 10.6%).
The ranking of manufacturers of new semi-trailers will continue to be headed by the German Shmitz (71 units, 39.7%). The second place was taken by Everlast (27 units, 15.1%), the third — Wielton (14 units, 7.8%).
The fourth step in the products of the TAD brand (12 units, 6.7%), closes the first five Stas with a similar result of 6.7% and 12 semi-trailers.
