Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in May and identified the 20 most popular models of small commercial vehicles in three segments: import of used cars, domestic resale and purchase of new cars.
LCV market dynamics
In May, Ukrainians purchased a total of 11,400 light commercial vehicles with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons. Which is 118.6% more than in the same period last year, and also 52.7% more than in April-2024.
At the same time, it is worth noting that the increase in statistical indicators is not entirely related to the actual increase in the volume of trades — rather, we see the reaction of motorists to the new laws on mobilization, which provide for the potential seizure of vehicles for defense purposes in the event that the owner, an individual, has more than one TK in possession. Since citizens own a lot of "buses" and light vans that belong to the LCV group, the wave of re-registration of second and more cars of this type to relatives or acquaintances also affected the segment we are considering. If you look at the diagram and compare the values before the changes in the legislation, it is quite justified to assume that at least half of the re-registrations in the domestic market are related to the mentioned factors and are not actual sales.
However, since there are no signs that would distinguish "rewriting" from a real sale, we will have to rely on the available statistical data, adjusted for the mentioned factors.
Therefore, the majority of purchase and sale agreements regarding small commercial cars usually took place on the domestic market — more than 10,000 (88.2%).
732 used cars belonging to the LCV group (6.4%) were brought from abroad.
617 new imported LCVs were registered, of which 52 were converted Ukrainian enterprises from imported chassis or machine sets. Overall, new LCV sales accounted for 5.5% of the total number of small commercial vehicles purchased.
The most popular LCVs in the domestic market
The greatest demand on the domestic market remains for used vans (7 thousand units). Other types are in the minority, including low-tonnage vans (806 units), cargo-passenger units (367 units), flatbed (356 units), and flatbed awnings (279 units).
Among individual models , the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (1,760 units) has held the unchanging lead in the domestic market for many years in a row. Since 1995, when the "Sprinter" appeared on the market replacing the "beads" of the T1 series, Ukrainian carriers have preferred this rather versatile and durable (the issue of corrosion resistance of the body is omitted) car. On our roads, it can be found in a variety of roles — from a cargo van to a city "router" or even a tourist minibus.
In second place is Renault Master (980 units), third is Ford Transit with 635 purchase and sale agreements. On the fourth Volkswagen Transporter (610 units)
Rounding out the top five is the GAZ-3302 "Gazelle" with a total of 477 self-propelled vehicles.

The most popular used LCVs imported from abroad
Used vans (546 units), refrigerator vans (45 units), vans with hydroboards (24 units), side-mounted awnings (24 units), and platforms (15 units) were most often brought from abroad.

The leader among imported used LCVs in terms of the number of first registrations of such vehicles was the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with 159 first registrations.
Renault Master, which is in second place,replenished our fleet in the amount of 156 units. The third in the list is Renault Trafic with a summary57 cars
Renault Kangoo with 55 cars submitted for the first registration and Volkswagen Transporter with 36 units also made it to the top five most popular "freshly driven" commercial vehicles.

The most popular new LCVs
Vans remain the most popular among new small commercial vehicles (286 units), all other types are bought in relatively small quantities. In particular, the following were purchased new last month: 53 cargo-passenger vehicles, 14 side-mounted awnings, 5 refrigerator vans, 5 double-cab vans.

Renault Master became the leader of the new LCV segment in May. 109 such models with zero mileage were registered for the first time. The second position in this list belongs to Renault Express with a score of 67 units. The third is Ford Transit (23 units), the fourth is Citroen Berlingo (18 units).
Rounding out the top five is the Fiat Doblo, 17 of which were bought.
