Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in April 2024, described the market dynamics and determined the 20 most popular new passenger cars of the month.
Dynamics of the new car market
In April, Ukrainians and local enterprises purchased 5,700 new cars. This is 12% less than in March of the same year, but 13.6% more than in April 2023. After two months of volume growth, with a record of 6,500 in March (not seen since 2021), the new passenger car market has slipped to close to monthly averages.
As usual, the majority of new cars in April ( 95.6%, 5430 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 4.4% (251 units).
Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals ( 68.6%, 3896 units), legal entities bought 1785 cars, which is a share of 31.4%.
Last month, the largest number of new cars were registered in the city of Kyiv (2,101 units, 37%) and the Kyiv region (715 units, 12.6%) — which traditionally accounts for almost half of the total volume of the new passenger car market. Also in the leaders are Dnipropetrovsk (449 units, 7.9%), Lviv (366 units, 6.4%) and Odesa (337 units, 5.9%) regions.
If we sum up the shares of the five leading regions, we get a value of 69.8%. That is, the lionʼs share of trades takes place precisely in these regions (and the capital). However, at the same time, it should be taken into account that some cars receive Kyiv "registration" not only because they are bought there, but also for two reasons — leasing companies, which can actually transfer vehicles to other regions, but register them at their place of residence. and state institutions plus private companies, which also often register their corporate parks in the capital, closer to the central offices.
The least number of new cars were registered in Kherson (9 units), Donetsk (10 units), Chernihiv (54 units) , Sumy (56 units), Volyn (62 units) and Rivne (also 62 units) regions. Luhansk region again falls into statistical samples with a zero result.
The share of these regions, if only five are taken into account, will be only 3.5%.
The most popular new cars
In April, the Toyota brand took the lead (822 units, 14.5%), pushing one position down from the leader of the previous period, Renault, which "closed" the month with the result of 531 first registrations, which is a share of 9.3%.
In third place is Volkswagen (486 units, 8.6%), with a result similar to the previous month, followed by BMW (394 units, 6.9%), improving its place on the brand list by one more position. Skoda closes the top five with a total of 314 cars and a share of 5.5%.
The Renault Duster crossover (405 units) once again won the first position in the rating of new cars, although this number is almost half as much as it was the previous month.
Another crossover, Toyota RAV4 (381 units), takes second place, after which the representative of the SUV family, Mazda CX-5 (215 units), is again in third place. On the fourth step is the KIA Sportage (178 units), the fifth place goes to the electric Volkswagen ID.4 (mainly the Chinese Crozz), which this time was chosen by 133 buyers.
