Wholesale prices for used cars in the EU are decreasing for the third month in a row

The price index determined by AUTO1 Group continues to show a decrease in wholesale prices for used cars in 2024, from 141.2 in February to 137.3 in March 2024 (-2.8%).

After a year of stabilization of wholesale prices for vehicles with mileage in 2023, with a small drop of 1.6% from January to December 2023, the first quarter of 2024 shows a more dynamic price situation. Since the beginning of the year, prices for used cars have fallen by -3.3%.

Year-over-year, wholesale used car prices fell 9%, and the index changed from 150.9 in March 2023 to 137.3 in March this year. However, used car prices are still 18.3% higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic, compared to March 2019 (when the index stood at 116.1).

The AUTO1 price index shows the monthly price change for used cars in Europe. It is determined on the basis of an analysis of more than 3.6 million sales of cars with mileage across Europe. The starting point for this index is January 2015, with a base value of 100 against which all subsequent values are determined.
