What small commercial equipment did you buy in January? Top new and used models

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine in January and identified the 20 most popular models of small commercial vehicles in three segments: used import, domestic resale, and new car purchases.

LCV market dynamics

In January, Ukrainians purchased a total of 5,000 light commercial vehicles with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons. Which is 35.5% more than in the same period last year, but 11.9% less than in December 2023.

The majority of small commercial cars were usually purchased on the domestic market — 3.7 thousand (74.9%). 824 used LCVs (16.5%) were brought from abroad.

433 new imported LCVs were registered, of which 42 were converted Ukrainian enterprises from imported chassis or machine sets. Overall, new LCV sales accounted for 8.6% of the total number of small commercial vehicles purchased.

The most popular LCVs in the domestic market

The greatest demand on the domestic market remains for used vans (2.6 thousand units). Other types are in the minority, including low-tonnage vans (169 units), cargo-passenger vans (162 units), side-mounted awnings (154 units), and side-mounted vans (146 units).

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (572 units) has held the unchanging leadership in the domestic market for many years in a row. The chassis of this car is used for various superstructures, as well as being converted for various needs of small and medium-sized businesses, including being used as special equipment. Renault Master is in second place (357 units), Ford Transit is third with 219 sales agreements, GAZ-3302 "Gazelle" is in fourth place (209 units)

Rounding out the top five is the Volkswagen Transporter (189 units).

The most popular used LCVs imported from abroad

From abroad, used vans (606 units), platforms (42 units), on-board awnings (41 units), refrigerated vans (32 units), and vans with hydroboards (32 units) were most often brought from abroad.

The leader among imported used LCVs in terms of the number of first registrations of such vehicles was the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with 204 first registrations.

Renault Master added to our fleet in the amount of 182 units, Renault Trafic — 74 units.

Renault kangoo (48 units) and Volkswagen Crafter, out of 46 cars submitted for the first registration, also made it to the top five most popular "freshly driven" commercial vehicles.

The most popular new LCVs

Among the new small commercial vehicles, vans remain the most popular (248 units), all other types can be considered single cases, sold in quantities of less than 10 vehicles. Here is their number: cargo-passenger (9 pcs.), refrigerated vans (6 pcs.), on-board awnings (6 pcs.), emergency repair vans (6 pcs.).

Renault Master became the leader of the new LCV segment in January. 101 such models with zero mileage were registered for the first time. The second position in this list belongs to Renault Express with a result of 36 units. The third is Peugeot Partner (17 units), the fourth is Fiat Doblo (14 units).

Opel Movano closes the top five, 13 of which were bought.

It is interesting that this time the Chinese-made electric van Maxus EV30 made it to the list. It is advantageously distinguished by the fact that it is officially presented in Ukraine and is sold with a guarantee. In addition, the Maxus line of commercial cars (there are also passenger cars) includes a variety of commercial vehicle options — from platforms to "beads" in dimensions with the well-known Sprinter. All of them are electric, and with quite good characteristics.
