Motorcycle market: what did Ukrainians buy in December?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations in December and identified the most popular models in three segments: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new motorcycles.

Dynamics of the motorcycle market

Due to seasonality, the demand for motorcycle equipment is quite logically decreasing, which is illustrated by the following diagram with the dynamics of trading in this market segment. However, despite the onset of winter, the motorcycle market has grown compared to the same period last year, and almost doubled! At the same time, it should be noted that the following numbers are obtained only from the accounting of official sales agreements and first registrations. The "shadow" part of the motorcycle market (in particular, the secondary one) remains outside the scope of this review. According to IDA experts, it can be quite significant — even equal to, or even greater than, the official part.

Now about the numbers: in December, Ukrainians bought 2.2 thousand of all motorcycles. This is 48.3% more than in the same period last year, and 30.2% less than in November 2023.

Among the total number , 52.8% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), in quantity, this is 1.2 thousand pieces. The motor vehicle segment remains the only one on the Ukrainian car market, where the majority of deals are sales of new vehicles.

796 agreements for the purchase and sale of motorcycle equipment were concluded on the domestic market, which accounted for 36.2% of the total number.

Only 11.1% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (243 units).

The average age of motorcycles on the market (as of December) was 15.2 years for those resold within the country and the same for motorcycles submitted for first registration after customs clearance.

The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market

In the domestic market, Japanese brands: Honda, Yamaha, and Geon prevailed among motorcycle manufacturers in the specified period.

On the domestic market, sales contracts were most often concluded in December for Loncin LX ( 43 units), Jawa 350 ( 32 units) and Lifan LF (27 units).

The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad

In the import segment, there were again not enough manufacturers to make up the classic twenty most popular. After all, it is quite logical — seasonality is indicated. In general, imports in the "moto" segment continue to be held by such brands as Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki.

Among individual models, Honda CB (17 units), Suzuki Address (10 units) and Yamaha Majesty (9 units) were most often submitted for first state registration.

The most popular new motorcycles

New motorcycles of Chinese manufacturers are mainly bought in Ukraine: in December, the brands Spark, Musstang and Lifan became the leaders. If you add up the shares of these three brands, and add more   one manufacturer from China — Forte, in total we will get almost half of the entire market — 49.1%.

Among the models, the championship is held by the Spark SP series (209 units), the second place is again occupied by the Musstang MT (145 units), the third place (also again) — Lifan LF (80 units)
