What buses did you buy in December? Top 20 new and used models

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in December and identified the most popular models in three segments of buses: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Bus market dynamics

In December 2023, Ukrainian carriers purchased 726 new and used buses. This is 19.2% more than in the same period last year, and 12.8% less than in November 2023. The peak in the bus segment last year fell on August, then the demand for this type of passenger transport decreased.

Most of the buses were bought on the domestic market : 541 units, which made up 74.5% of the total number.

9.6% of the total number of used buses were brought from abroad : 70 units.

Also last month, 115 new buses were registered for the first time: 108 of them were manufactured or converted in Ukraine ( 14.9% ), 7 pcs. arrived from abroad ( 1% ).

The most popular buses on the domestic market

Buses based on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (152 units) remain the leader in domestic resales. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks at one time.

In second place is Bohdan A-092 with a score of 50 cars. Volkswagen LT is in third place (36 pcs.), BAZ A079 "Etalon" is in fourth place.

Rounding out the top five is another representative of the Iveco Daily "bead" family (19 units).

In general, the majority of buses in the domestic market are of small and medium capacity.

The average age of buses sold on the domestic market in December is 19.2 years, which is 0.4 years less than in December 2022. However, such a change definitely does not indicate the "rejuvenation" of the bus market in Ukraine, rather it is about minor, quite typical for "secondary" fluctuations of this indicator within small limits.

The most popular used buses brought from abroad

Due to a large number of legislative restrictions, few buses are brought from abroad today. Such vehicles are subject to the limitation of the ecological standard no lower than "Euro-5", and the amount of excise tax is 50 times greater for buses over 8 years old, which makes their import economically unprofitable.

In December, quite unexpectedly, large models of the tourist class — Van Hool T9 (9 units) and Volvo B7 (8 units) were among the leaders. The same number of "beads" of smaller capacity Volkswagen Crafter (8 units) arrived, and somewhat less similar Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (7 units).

Rounding out the top five newly arrived buses is the city variant from MAN — Lionʼs City (5 pcs.).

The average age of used buses brought from abroad was 13 years, which is more than last month (12.2 years) and also more than exactly a year ago (12.3 years).

The most popular new buses

Most of the new buses that Ukrainians registered for the first time in December 2023 are products of Ukrainian enterprises: 11 out of 20 models were manufactured or converted new in factory conditions in Ukraine. The first place was taken by ZAZ A08 (30 units), the second place was taken by Bohdan A-092 (27 units), and the third place was its newer version, Bohdan A-093 (26 units).

Also in the top five were the A081 "Etalon" base station with 14 first registrations, and Ford Transit (3 pcs.).
