The demand for trailers for vans decreased again in November. Which brands of semi-trailers were bought more often?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in November and identified the top brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

Similar to the truck segment, market activity in the semi-trailer segment decreased in November. In one month, Ukrainians bought 2.7 thousand new and used semi-trailers. It   by 31.2% less than in the same period last year in 2022, and by 5.2% less than in October 2023.

According to the results of November, 51.8% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1.4 thousand transactions). 1,100 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which accounted for 40.2% of the total number.

8.1% of semi-trailers were purchased new(219 pcs.). Of this number, 29 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 190 units. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

The highest demand was observed on the domestic market in November for tipper semi-trailers. 20.9%, or 294 units, bought these. quantitatively Container trucks (12.3%, 173 pcs.) and flatbed semi-trailers ( 10.5%, 148 pcs.) are also quite popular.

Flatbed semi-trailers also made it to the Top 5( 9.3%, 130 units) and tanks (127 units, 9%).

Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market. Among all semi-trailers, they were 20.2% (284 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (159 units, 11.3%) and Koegel (124 units, 8.8%), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller is in fourth place (80 units, 5.7%), and Fruehauf is in fifth place (41 units, 2.9%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During November 2023, the most frequently imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers(27.7%, 302 units), dump trucks (20.6%, 224 units), and container trucks (14.5%, 158 units).

Tented platforms (9.2%, 100 pcs.) and refrigerators (8%, 87 pcs.) also entered the top five most popular by type.

The first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share increased slightly and amounted to 33.4% (364 units).

Second place was taken by Krone products (132 units, 12.1%). Koegel was in third place (86 units, 7.9%), Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (45 units, 4.1%).

Rounding out the top five is Oztreyler (40 units, 3.7%).

The most popular new semi-trailers

The majority of all new semi-trailers bought in November are tipper semi- trailers (96 units, 43.8% ). Another 13.2% in this market segment was occupied by tanks for dangerous goods (29 units).

Tented versions took third place with a share of 12.3% (27 units). They also bought refrigerators (18 units, 8.2% ) and tanks (12 units, 5.5% ).

The ranking of manufacturers of new semi-trailers will continue to be headed by the German Shmitz (36.5%, 80 units), having again increased its share. The second place is Wielton (19 units, 8.7%), the third is Everlast (18 units, 8.2%), the fourth place is occupied by Mega brand products (15 units, 6.8%)

Rounding out the top five is Dogan Yildiz (5%, 11 units), Bodex has the same result.
