Due to the decrease in demand for tractors, sales of trailers for "trucks" also decreased. What brands of semi-trailers are the most popular in Ukraine?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in October and identified the top brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

As in sales of semi-trailer trucks, market activity in the semi-trailer segment decreased in October. During the month, Ukrainians purchased 2.9 thousand new and used semi-trailers. It   by 29.3% less than in the same period last year in 2022, and by 3.3% less than in September 2023.

According to the results of October, 49.1% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1.4 thousand transactions). 1,200 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which accounted for 40.9% of the total number.

9.9% of semi-trailers were purchased new(287 pcs.). Of them, 31 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 256 units. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

The highest demand was observed on the domestic market in October for tipper semi-trailers. 21.6%, or 303 units, purchased these. quantitatively Container carriers (13.4%, 189 pcs.) and flatbed semi-trailers ( 11.8%, 166 pcs.) are also quite popular.

Awnings ( 9%, 127 pcs.) and flatbed semi-trailers also made it to the top 5( 8.6%, 121 units).

As for manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market. Among all semi-trailers, they were 20.8% (292 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (172 units, 12.2%) and Koegel (134 units, 9.5%), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller was in fourth place (75 units, 5.3%), and Wielton was in fifth place (45 units, 3.2%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During October 2023, the most frequently imported semi-trailers were awnings(26.3%, 308 units), dump trucks (23.1%, 270 units), and container trucks (15.8%, 185 units).

Tented platforms (8.6%, 101 pcs.) and refrigerators (7%, 82 pcs.) also entered the top five most popular by type.

The first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share was 30.6% (358 units).

Second place was taken by Krone products (148 units, 12.6%). Koegel was in third place (129 units, 11%), Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (44 units, 3.8%).

Wielton closes the top five (33 units, 2.8%).

The most popular new semi-trailers

Almost half of all new semi-trailers bought in October are tipper semi- trailers (128 units, 44.6% ). Another 11.8% in this segment of the market was occupied by awning semi-trailers(34 pcs.).

On-board versions took third place with a share of 9.8% (21 units). Also popular were tanks for dangerous goods (21 pcs., 7.3% ) and on-board awning semi-trailers (21 pcs., 7.3% ).

The ranking of manufacturers of new semi-trailers continues to be led by the German Shmitz (30.3%, 87 units), having increased both the share and quantitative presence. The second, third and fourth places, as in previous periods, were occupied by Polish manufacturers: Wielton (15.3%, 44 units), Bodex (12.2%, 35 units) and Zaslaw (10.5%, 30 units). ) respectively.

Rounding out the top five is Mega (5.9%, 17 units).
