Semi-trailer sales also declined. What brands were popular in September?

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine in September and identified the top brands in three segments of semi-trailers: used import, domestic resale and new purchase.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

As in sales of semi-trailer trucks, activity in the semi-trailer segment decreased in September. In one month, Ukrainians purchased 3,000 new and used semi-trailers. It   by 33.3% less than in the same period last year in 2022, and by 15.8% less than in August 2023.

According to the results of September, 52.2% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1.6 thousand transactions). 1,200 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which accounted for 38.6% of the total number.

9.2% of semi-trailers were purchased new(280 pcs.). Of them, 38 pieces were made in Ukraine, and the remaining 242 pieces. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

Tipper semi- trailers remained the most in demand on the domestic market in September. 22.9% or 365 units purchased these. quantitatively Also popular were container carriers (14.5%, 230 pcs.) and flatbed semi-trailers ( 10.6%, 184 pcs.).

On- board ( 10.6%, 169 units) and   refrigerator semi- trailers (6.5%, 135 units).

As for brands, the German Shmitz remains the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market. Among all semi-trailers, they were 19.5% (311 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (185 units, 11.6%) and Koegel (174 units, 10.9%), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller is in fourth place (69 units, 4.3%), and Fruehauf is in fifth place (55 units, 3.5%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During September 2023, the most imported semi-trailers were dump trucks (27.8%, 326 units) and awning semi-trailers (23.1%, 271 units).

Container carriers (15.8%, 185 units), awning platforms (8.8%, 103 units), and refrigerated semi- trailers (7.2%, 84 units) were also included in the list.

The first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share was 29.8% (350 units).

The second place was taken by the Krone brand (125 units, 10.6%). Koegel was in third place (110 units, 9.4%), and Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (41 units, 3.5%).

Stas closes the top five (38 units, 3.2%).

The most popular new semi-trailers

More than half of all new semi-trailers sold in September are tipper semi- trailers (145 units, 51.8% ). Another 12.9% was occupied by tank semi- trailers for dangerous goods (36 units).

Refrigerators took third place with a share of 7.9% (22 units). Container trucks (17 units, 6.1% ) and awning semi-trailers (12 units, 4.3% ) were also popular.

The German Shmitz (22%, 57 units) continues to lead the rating of new semi-trailer brands. The second, third and fourth places were taken by Polish manufacturers: Bodex (21.2%, 55 units), Zaslaw (11.2%, 29 units) and Wielton (8.1%, 21 units), respectively.

Turkish Dogan Yildiz (7.3%, 19 units) closes the top five.
