The situation remains stable on the automotive market of the European Union: in September, used car prices almost did not change, according to the AUTO1 Group price index.
In the first month of autumn, the indicator showed a small increase: prices increased by only 0.4 percentage points. to 148.0 compared to 147.4 in August. A 0.5pp drop was recorded then, so it can be argued that prices simply returned to July 2023 values.
In general, such monthly price fluctuations can be called insignificant, if compared with the previous year. Thus, in September 2022, wholesale prices for used cars were up 12 percentage points. higher, with the price index at the level of 168.3. In the first 9 months of the current year, prices remain stable, with a slight decrease of 0.9 percentage points. from January to September. That is, over the last year, passenger cars with mileage on the European Union market have become significantly cheaper, and now their prices remain stable.
The most expensive used cars were in July 2022, when the AUTO1 Group price index reached its maximum value since 2015: 171.6.
The AUTO1 Group price index shows the monthly price change for used cars in Europe. The index is developed on the basis of the companyʼs database, which contains records of about 3.6 million auto sales transactions. In this way, you can see how the average price of cars changes. The starting point is January 2015 with a base value of 100, against which all further comparisons take place.
