Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registration operations in September 2023 and determined what is happening with the sales of used cars.
In September, Ukrainians bought 108,600 used cars. This is 14.1% more than in the same period of last year 2022, and 6.3% less than in August 2023.
The majority of cars with mileage were purchased on the domestic market : 80.2% of the total number of used car sales (87.1 thousand).
The share of imported cars with mileage from abroad amounted to 19.8% (21.5 thousand). It was higher in August 2022, that is, it is a record indicator for the last 13 months. Quantitatively, the results of September became the second for the same period. Currently, it can be stated that the import of used cars from abroad has been recorded at the level of 21,500 units per month.
Internal resales
On the domestic market, Ukrainians concluded 87,100 sales and purchase agreements for used cars in September. This is 10.3% more than in September 2022, and 7.6% more than in August 2023.
The largest number of registration transactions on the domestic market was recorded in the city of Kyiv : 12.9 thousand. Together with the Kyiv region, which took second place in the rating with 10,000 registrations, they account for 21.1% of the total number of used cars sold domestically during September.
Dnipropetrovsk (3rd place, 9.1 thousand), Odesa (4th place, 8 thousand) and Lviv (5th place, 7.8 thousand) regions have also traditionally entered the top 5 most active regions in terms of domestic resale of used cars.
The smallest number of agreements was concluded in regions whose territories are temporarily occupied or where active hostilities are taking place: Kherson (351 agreements), Luhansk (752 agreements) and Donetsk (1,185 agreements) regions. Chernihivska (2.2 thousand transactions) and Mykolayivska (2.3 thousand) were also among the regions with the lowest number of used car sales.region
Import of used cars
In September 2023, 21,500 used cars were brought from abroad. This indicator is 32.7% higher than in September 2022, and almost the same as in August 2023 (0.5% less).
Like last month, the most actively registered used cars from abroad were in Lviv region (2.7 thousand units), Kyiv (2.2 thousand units) and Kyiv region (1.6 thousand units).
Vinnytsia (1.5 thousand) and Rivne (1.3 thousand) regions were also among the most active regions in September.
The fewest "freshly driven" cars were registered in the Kherson (29), Donetsk (101), Luhansk (178), Mykolaiv (248) and Kirovohrad (283) regions.
