Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registrations of "electric cars" in Ukraine during June and identified the top 20 models in three segments: import of used cars, domestic resale and purchase of new electric cars. The market segment is growing more and more, and the first month of summer brought two records at once: the maximum number of imported used "electric cars" (over 2.5 thousand), and the maximum number of first registrations of new cars with an electric engine: 600 units.
Dynamics of the electric car market
In July, Ukrainians bought more than 4,600 new and used electric cars. This is 70.4% more than in July last year; and by 1.3% more than in June 2023. And this is another monthly record for sales of electric cars in Ukraine.
Among the total number of electric cars in June, 98.9% were cars, 1.1% were trucks (51 units).
More than half of electric cars ( 59.1%, 2,727 units) were brought used from abroad. Such indicators turned out to be a record in the history of the "electric" segment of the Ukrainian car market: both the share and the number turned out to be the maximum according to the results of the month. The import of such cars is facilitated by the "zero" rate of customs clearance: the registration of a car in Ukraine is significantly cheaper, because, unlike cars with an internal combustion engine, you do not need to pay VAT (20% of the value) and customs duty (10% of the value), and excise tax — minimum (1 euro per 1 kW of battery capacity).
On the domestic market, 28.6% of the total number of sold cars with an electric motor (1,321 units) were purchased.
12.2% of cars (564 units) were bought new. Thus, after last monthʼs record sales of new "electric cars", sales decreased somewhat.
As of the end of June 2023, according to the calculations of the Institute of Car Market Research, the total fleet of automobiles with an electric engine is 64,307 units registered in Ukraine (excluding those deregistered due to scrapping and export abroad): 62,266 passenger cars, 2,036 trucks and 5 buses.
According to the experts of the Institute of Car Market Research, electric cars are a new sector of the car market, which will continue to grow actively, because the number of electric modifications in the model lines of car manufacturers is only increasing. In Ukraine, this is happening due to the expansion of supply and growth in demand for budget models. The main driver is the high price of fuel, which is increasing. On the other hand, in the part of electric cars of the "premium" group, the increase in the pace of sales is not so noticeable, it rather depends on the appearance of new models from one or another manufacturer.

The first place in the domestic market, with a large margin from the nearest competitors, is occupied by the Nissan Leaf. In June, 359 purchase and sale agreements were concluded. This model has been leading the rating for several years in a row, and such cars are chosen primarily because of their availability — a sufficient supply on the market and a relatively low price.

Third place was taken by Volkswagen E-Golf (107 units).
