In July, a staggering number of used cars were brought from abroad over the past 11 months

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registration operations in July 2023 and determined what is happening with the sales of used cars.

In July, Ukrainians bought 101.3 thousand used cars. This is 11.6% less than in the same period of last year 2022, and 1.1% more than in June 2023.

Most cars with mileage were purchased on the domestic market : 81.8% of the total number of used car sales (82.8 thousand).

The share of imported cars with mileage from abroad amounted to 18.2% (18.5 thousand), which turned out to be the maximum indicator since December 2022. Quantitatively, the result turned out to be the largest since August 2022 (then 19,400 imported cars with mileage were registered).

Internal resales

On the domestic market, in July, Ukrainians concluded 82,800 sales and purchase agreements for used cars. This is 23.1% more than in July 2022, when a significant number of cars with mileage were brought from abroad as a result of the so-called "zero" customs clearance. If compared with the previous month, June 2023, sales were 1.7% lower.

The largest number of registration transactions on the domestic market was recorded in the city of Kyiv : 13.2 thousand. Together with the Kyiv region, which took third place in the rating with 8.3 thousand registrations, they make up 21.3% of the total number of used cars sold domestically during July.

Dnipropetrovsk (2nd place, 9.3 thousand), Lviv (4th place, 7.9 thousand) and Odesa (5th place, 7.1 thousand) regions are also traditionally included in the top 5 most active regions in terms of domestic resale of used cars .

The smallest number of agreements was concluded in the regions whose territories are temporarily occupied or where active hostilities are taking place: Kherson (354 agreements), Luhansk (691 agreements) and Donetsk (1,179 agreements) regions. Mykolayivska (2,000 deals) and Chernihivska (2,000 deals) were also among the regions with the lowest number of used car sales.region

Import of used cars

In July 2023, 18,500 used cars were brought from abroad. This indicator is 61% less than in July 2022, and 1.9% more than in June 2023.

Like last month, the most actively registered used cars from abroad were in Lviv region (2.4 thousand units), Kyiv (1.8 thousand units) and Kyiv region (1.43 thousand units).

Vinnytsia (1.2 thousand) and Rivne (1.1 thousand) regions were also among the most active regions in May.

The fewest "freshly driven" cars were registered in the Kherson (36), Donetsk (88), Luhansk (166), Mykolaiv (188) and Zaporizhia (268) regions.
