Almost 12 billion in half a year. How have car prices changed in Ukraine?

In April, the price of used cars in Ukraine rose. The changes affected almost all popular models on the market. The Automoto.ua aggregator collects ads for the sale of all cars from 100 auto sites in Ukraine. Based on these data, the experts of the Institute of Car Market Research determined the price picture of online sales of used cars in Ukraine.

During the first half of 2023Ukrainians placed 1 million 424.8 thousand ads for the sale of passenger cars on the Internet. Of them, 255.5 thousand were published in June, which turned out to be the second result for the first 6 months of 2023, and the peak of activity was March ( 256.8 thousand ads). April became the least active ( 218.3 thousand ads). In general, online sales of cars are growing for the third month in a row, and June figures are 15.9% higher than in the same period last year.

The total value of cars placed in advertisements in the first half of the year amounted to $11.89 billion. Of them, only in June — $2.22 billion, which is 11% more than in June 2022. In general, on average, Ukrainians offer used cars worth about $2 billion for sale every month.

According to the results of the first half of 2023, the largest number of advertisements were traditionally placed in the Kyiv region and the city of Kyiv (a total of 244.9 thousand), Dnipropetrovsk (121.9 thousand) and Lviv (116.5 thousand) regions. The least — in Kherson (4.7 thousand), Luhansk (9 thousand) and Donetsk (28.6 thousand) regions.

The cheapest (by average cost) cars were in Kherson ($3,000), Donetsk ($3,000), and Mykolaiv ($3,900) regions, the most expensive — in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast ($7,200), Lviv ($6,550), and Volyn ($6,400) ) regions.

The total value of cars was also the highest in the capital and Kyiv region ($2.99 billion), Lviv ($1.09 billion), and Dnipropetrovsk ($0.97 billion) regions, the lowest — in Kherson ($23 million), Luhansk ($91 million) and Donetsk ($160 million).

The average price of cars sold on the Internet in the first half of 2023 was $5,400. At the same time, the June figure was $5,550, which is 7.3% less than in June 2022. The highest average price of a car for sale in the first half of the year was recorded in May — at the level of $5,800, and the lowest — in February : $5,000. Thus, after an increase in the average price for 3 months in a row (from February to May), in June cars became cheaper by 4.3%, if compared with the previous month.

Among the 15 most popular models since the beginning of the year (if we compare the average price in January and June), in percentage terms the Volkswagen Golf (+13.4%), Audi A6 (+8.4%) and BMW 3 Series (+6.2) are the most popular %), and only three VAZ models fell in price: 2109 (-3.9%), 2106 (-3.4%) and 2101 (-0.7%).
