Sales of buses are increasing, but most are bought on the domestic market. Top 20 models

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine during June and identified the top models in three segments of buses: used import, domestic resale, and new purchase.

Bus market dynamics

In June 2023, Ukrainians purchased 890 new and used buses. This indicator is 57.8% higher than in the same period last year and 13.2% higher than in May 2023. Thus, the auto market figures in the bus sales segment are also approaching the level that was before the start of the full-scale invasion.

Most of the buses were bought on the domestic market : 749 units, which accounted for 84.2% of the total number. This is the largest share in the last 9 months.

9.1% of the total number of used buses were brought from abroad : 81 units. Thus, the share of used imported buses in the market structure turned out to be the smallest since January 2019 (then this indicator was recorded at the level of 7.3%).

Also, 60 new buses were registered for the first time in June: 56 of them were manufactured or converted in Ukraine ( 6.3% ), 4 pcs. imported from abroad 0.4%).

The most popular buses on the domestic market

Buses on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis (168 units) remain the leader of domestic resales. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks.

In second place were buses based on Mercedes Benz T1 and T2 (97 units in total), which have not been produced since the mid-90s of the last century. This item also includes goods vehicles that were once converted into buses.

Ukrainian BAZ/CHAZ A079 "Etalon" buses took third place (79 units), and Bohdan/Ataman A-092 (46 units) took fourth place.

Rounding out the five most popular models in June on the domestic market are buses based on the Volkswagen LT (45 units).

In general, in the domestic market, the majority are buses of small and medium capacity. At the same time, 5 out of 20 models are models built on the basis of Russian-made units.

The most popular used buses brought from abroad

As a result of a large number of legislative restrictions, few buses are brought from abroad today, and the share of imports in the sales structure is decreasing. Such vehicles are subject to the limitation of the environmental standard no lower than "Euro-5", and the amount of excise tax is 50 times greater for buses over 8 years old, which makes their import economically unprofitable.

In June, used buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Citaro (13 units) were most often brought from abroad. In second place — Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (9 pcs.). The third step was taken by VDL Ambassador (6 pcs.).

Most of the new buses that Ukrainians registered for the first time in June 2023 are products of Ukrainian enterprises. So, the first place was taken by Bohdan/Ataman A-092 (33 units).

Bohdan/Ataman A-093 (13 units) took second place, and BAZ A081 "Etalon" (6 units) took third place.
