Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registration operations in June 2023 and determined what is happening with the sales of used cars. The indicators turned out to be a record for the last 11 months.
In June, Ukrainians bought 102,400 used cars. This is 30.3% less than in the same period last year in 2022, the last month of the so-called "zero" customs clearance, and 0.7% more than in May 2023. This indicator turned out to be the highest in the last 11 months — since July 2022.
Most cars with mileage were purchased on the domestic market. The share of domestic resales was 82.3% of the total number of sales of used cars (84.3 thousand).
The share of imported cars with mileage from abroad amounted to 17.7% (18.1 thousand), which turned out to be the maximum indicator since December 2022.
Internal resales
On the domestic market in June, Ukrainians concluded 84,300 sales and purchase agreements for used cars. This is 40.9% more than in June 2022. At that time, most of the used cars on the market were imported from abroad due to the effect of the so-called "zero" customs clearance, after the cancellation of which the market was redistributed in favor of domestic resales. If compared with the previous month, May 2023, sales were 0.9% lower.
The largest number of registration transactions on the domestic market was recorded in the city of Kyiv : 13.3 thousand. Together with the Kyiv region, which took third place in the rating with 8.4 thousand registrations, they make up 21.2% of the total number of used cars sold domestically during June.
Dnipropetrovsk (2nd place, 9.4 thousand), Lviv (4th place, 8 thousand) and Odesa (5th place, 7.4 thousand) regions have also traditionally entered the top 5 most active regions in terms of domestic resale of used cars.
The smallest number of agreements was concluded in regions whose territories are temporarily occupied or where active hostilities are taking place: Kherson (305 agreements), Luhansk (566 agreements) and Donetsk (1,135 agreements) regions. Also, Mykolaivska (2.1 thousand deals) and Chernihivska (2.2 thousand deals) were among the top 5 regions with the lowest number of used car sales.region
Import of used cars

Like last month, the most actively registered used cars from abroad were in Lviv Oblast (2.4 thousand units), Kyiv (1.6 thousand units) and Vinnytsia Oblast (1.4 thousand units).
Kyiv (1.2 thousand) and Rivne (1.1 thousand) regions were also among the most active regions in May.
Kherson (30), Donetsk (78), Luhansk (158), Mykolaiv (207) and Zaporizhia (261) regions registered the fewest "freshly driven" cars.
