In May, the largest number of electric cars was registered in the last 10 years. What models did you buy?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registrations of "electric cars" in Ukraine during May and identified the top 15 models in three segments: import of used cars, domestic resale and purchase of new electric cars. It turned out that the last month of spring 2023 turned out to be a record for the segment of electric cars.

Dynamics of the electric car market

In May, Ukrainians bought 4,000 new and used electric cars. This is 53.8% more than in May last year and 21.2% more than in April 2023. And this is a new record for sales of electric cars in Ukraine.

Among the total number of electric cars in May, 99.1% were cars, 0.9% (37 units) were trucks.

More than half of electric cars ( 50.3%, 1,989 units) were brought used from abroad. The import of cars with mileage will continue to be the main source of replenishment of the Ukrainian fleet of electric cars, and their import is facilitated by the "zero" customs clearance rate on them.

On the domestic market, 34.9% of the total number of sold cars with an electric motor (1,379 units) were purchased.

14.9% of cars (588 units) were bought new. This is the maximum quantitative indicator of registrations of new electric cars, that is, it is another record in the electric car market.

As of the end of May 2023, according to the calculations of the Institute of Car Market Research, the total fleet of automobiles with an electric engine is 57,830 units registered in Ukraine (taking into account those removed from the register due to scrapping and export abroad): 55,856 passenger cars, 1,969 trucks and 5 buses.

TOP of the most popular electric cars on the domestic market

The first place among domestic resales is traditionally occupied by the Nissan Leaf, with a wide margin from the closest competitors. In May, 342 purchase and sale agreements were concluded for these. The Tesla Model 3 is in second place on the list, with 116 deals.

Third place is held by Volkswagen ID.4 (104 units). Volkswagen E-Golf rose to the fourth position (96 units), and Tesla Model Y rose to the fifth place (60 units).

As in the domestic market, Nissal Leaf (402 units) retained the lead in the segment of "freshly driven" electric cars in May.

Volkswagen E-Golf rose to second place (272 units), pushing Tesla Model 3 (156 units) to the third place.

Renault Zoe remained in fourth place (131 units), and in fifth — Tesla Model Y (126 units).

Volkswagen ID.4 (176 units) took the first place according to the results of May. Second place was taken by Honda M-NV (111 units), and Mercedes-Benz EQS (26 units) rose to third place.

Volkswagen ID.6 fell to fourth place (23 units), and Honda e:NS1 (21 units) rose to fifth place.
