Domestic resale of buses is growing. Results of February

Experts of the Institute of Auto Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine during February and identified the top models in three segments of buses: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Bus market dynamics

In February 2023, Ukrainians purchased 589 new and used buses. This indicator is 17.5% lower than in the same period last year and 2.4% higher than in January 2023.

The majority of buses were bought on the domestic market in October: 473 buses, which accounted for 80.3% of the total number. Only 8.5% of used buses from the total number of 50 were brought from abroad. This is the smallest share of this segment in the last 12 months.

Also, in January, 65 buses manufactured or converted in Ukraine were registered for the first time ( 11% ).

Also, in February, for the first time in 12 months, not a single new imported bus was registered.

The most popular buses on the domestic market

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (101 units) remains the leader in domestic resales. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks.

In second place were buses based on Mercedes Benz T1 and T2 (60 units in total), which have not been produced since the mid-90s of the last century. This item also includes goods vehicles that were once converted into buses.

Ukrainian BAZ A079 "Etalon" buses took third place (44 units), and Bohdan/Ataman A-092 (41 units) took fourth place.

Rounding out the five most popular models on the domestic market in February is the Volkswagen LT (26 units).

The most popular used buses brought from abroad

Due to a large number of legislative restrictions, few buses are brought from abroad today. Such vehicles are subject to the limitation of the environmental standard no lower than "Euro-5", and the amount of excise tax is 50 times higher for buses over 8 years old, which makes their import economically unprofitable.

In February, used buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (11 pcs.) were most often brought from abroad. Ford Transit is in second place (9 units), and Mercedes-Benz Citaro is in third place (5 units).

The most popular new buses

Most of the new buses that Ukrainians purchased in February 2023 are products of Ukrainian enterprises. So, the first place was taken by BAZ A081 "Etalon". 41 such units were purchased. Bohdan/Ataman A-093 (19 units) took second place. The third step with an indicator of 2 pcs. of registered buses was occupied by ZAZ A08.
