World automotive market

Mazda Motor Corporation announced results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022. During this period, the Japanese manufacturer sold 795,000 cars worldwide. The companyʼs operating profit amounted to EUR 776.5 million, which is 72% more than last year.

In Europe, sales increased by 3% during this period, mainly due to the introduction of models with electric motors. For example, sales of the electric Mazda CX-60 exceeded 13,000 units. Mazda 2 Hybrid was also popular among the brandʼs models.

The total volume of sales of Mazda in Europe for three quarters amounted to 108 thousand units. In Germany and Great Britain, Mazdaʼs largest European markets, 25,000 and 18,000 new cars were delivered to customers, respectively.

In Japan, Mazdaʼs "native" market, 107,000 cars were sold, which is 14% more than last year. This result increased the manufacturerʼs market share by 0.4 percentage points, which amounted to 3.6% of the total number of sales.

In China, demand for Mazda fell during April-December, and annual sales amounted to 72 thousand units, which is 46% less than the previous year. This is mainly due to temporary production stops and sales restrictions due to "coronavirus" lockdowns.

In total, for the three quarters of the fiscal year, Mazda reported net sales of 19.1 billion euros, a 25% increase over the same period last year. The companyʼs operating profit amounted to EUR 776.5 million — this figure is 72% higher. Net profit amounted to 734.7 million euros.

According to the Institute of Car Market Research, 672 new Mazdas were registered in Ukraine for the first time in 2022. Compared to 2021, sales have decreased by 77.3%, but this is due to a general decline in activity in the purchase of new cars against the background of the beginning of a full-scale war. Mazda CX-5 (388 units), Mazda CX-30 (104 units) and Mazda CX-9 (66 units) were the most popular models in Ukraine last year.
