A quarter of the new buses sold in January were manufactured in Ukraine

Experts of the Institute of Auto Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine during January and identified the top models in three segments of buses: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Bus market dynamics

In January 2023, Ukrainians purchased 575 new and used buses. This indicator is — 4.2% less than in the same period last year and — 5.6% less than in December 2022.

The majority of buses were bought on the domestic market in October: 359 buses, which accounted for 62.4% of the total number. Only 9.2% of the total number of used buses were brought from abroad : 53 units.

Also, in January, 147 buses manufactured or converted in Ukraine were registered for the first time ( 25.6% ). This share was the largest during the last 12 months.

Only 16 new imported buses were purchased ( 2.8% ).

The most popular buses on the domestic market

Most often, Ukrainians buy small and medium class buses. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (70 units) remains the leader of domestic resales. A significant part of these vehicles was converted into passenger buses from trucks.

In second place were buses based on Mercedes Benz T1 and T2 (47 units in total), which have not been produced since the mid-90s of the last century. This item also includes goods vehicles that were once converted into buses.

Ukrainian BAZ A079 "Etalon" buses took third place (27 units), and Volkswagen LT (22 units) took fourth place.

Rounding out the five most popular models in January on the domestic market are buses manufactured in Ukraine on the basis of "Gazelles" — Ruta 25 (15 pcs.).

The most popular used buses brought from abroad

Used buses based on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (14 units) were most often brought from abroad. In second place is Van Hool T9 (9 units), and in third place is Mercedes-Benz Citaro (5 units).

3. Mercedes-Benz Citaro — 5 pcs.
4. Renault Master — 5 pcs.
5. Setra S500 — 3 pcs.

The most popular new buses

Most of the new buses that Ukrainians purchased in January 2023 are products of Ukrainian enterprises. So, the first place was taken by BAZ A081 "Etalon". 66 of these were purchased. Bohdan/Ataman A-093 (52 units) took second place. The third step with an indicator of 15 pcs. of registered buses was occupied by ZAZ A08 (15 pcs.).

Otokar Navigo T (11 pcs.) and Ford Transit (4 pcs.) also made it into the top five.
