Over 41% of cars under 3 years of age are bought in the Kyiv region. Results 2022

The segment of cars under 3 years old began to develop actively against the background of a lack of new cars in showrooms. One of the advantages of such cars, in addition to the lower price, is the opportunity to buy a car "today for today". Over the past year, Ukrainians purchased more than 27,000 such cars. Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of registrations in 2022 and identified the top 25 models under three years of age in the import of used cars and domestic resale of cars.

Dynamics of the car market under 3 years old

In December, Ukrainians bought almost 3,000 cars under 3 years old. This is −23.8% less than in December 2021 and 6.3% more than in November 2022.

In total, during 2022, Ukrainians purchased 27,100 used cars under 3 years old . This is −31.7% less than in 2021.

More than half ( 64.1%, 17.4 thousand units) were purchased on the domestic market, the remaining 35.9% (9.7 thousand units) were brought used from abroad.

September was the most active month in sales of cars of this category. At that time, Ukrainians bought more than 3,100 cars under 3 years old. In general, on average, about 3 thousand such cars are bought in Ukraine every month.

In which regions are most cars under 3 years old bought?

In 2022, the largest number of cars under the age of 3 were registered in the city of Kyiv (18.9 thousand), which accounted for 28.7% of the total number. Another 8,500 such cars ( 13% ) were registered in the Kyiv region. That is, a total of 41.7% of cars up to 3 years old are bought in the capital and the region.

Dnipropetrovsk region took third place in the ranking (6.2 thousand, 9.4%). The Lviv region was on the fourth step (4.8 thousand, 7.3%), while the Odesa region rounded out the top five leaders (4.7 thousand, 7.1%).

TOP "almost new" cars on the domestic market

The most popular "almost new" passenger car on the domestic market in 2022 was the Toyota RAV-4 (836 units). Toyota Land Cruiser Prado took second place (753 units), and Toyota Land Cruiser (592 units) took third place.

The fourth step was also taken by Toyota — Camry (581 units). Fifth place was taken by KIA Sportage (496 units).

TOP imported used cars up to 3 years old

According to the results of 2022, the electric Volkswagen ID.4 (862 units) became the leader of "freshly driven" cars under 3 years old. These cars are imported both from European countries and from China.

The second place was also occupied by an electric car — Tesla Model Y (522 units). The third place was taken by the electric Honda M-NV (429 units), and the fourth place was taken by the Tesla Model 3 (413 units). Thus, the first four positions of the most popular "almost new" cars were occupied by electric cars. Their import today is very profitable, because their registration is almost "zero": there is no need to pay customs duty, VAT, levy to the pension fund, instead, the excise tax is minimal, 1 euro per 1 kW battery.
