The segment of trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons turned out to be one of the oldest on the Ukrainian car market. The volume of imports of used trucks decreased significantly after the cancellation of the so-called zero customs clearance, and as of the end of 2022, sales in general stabilized at about 1.7 thousand cars per month. Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute determined in which regions cars of this category and top 25 models are most often bought in the domestic market, among "freshly driven" and new trucks.
Truck market dynamics
In December, Ukrainians bought almost 1.7 thousand new and used carscargo vehicles with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons, excluding tractor-trailers. This is −51.2% less than in December 2021 and 1% more than in November 2022.
In total, during 2022, Ukrainians purchased 66,600 truckscars weighing more than 3.5 tons. This is 35.6% less than in 2021.
The majority of trucks ( 68.9%, 45.9 thousand) in 2022 were purchased on the domestic market. Another 24.3% (16.2 thousand) were brought in used from abroad. Only 6.8% (4.5 thousand) trucks were bought new. Of this number , 1.6 thousand were converted by Ukrainian enterprises from imported machine sets or chassis.
June turned out to be the most active month after the start of the full-scale war in the studied market segment — during this month, Ukrainians purchased 2,200 trucks. Such a figure was achieved thanks to the action of the so-called "zero" customs clearance, when the share of imports of these cars with mileage was significantly higher (38.2% in June). After the return of customs payments, the volume of imported cars from abroad decreased (in December, the share was 7.8%, which is quantitatively equal to 130 units), and most trucks are now bought on the domestic market.
