The total number of first registrations of new passenger cars in February was 4,193. This is not the kind of result that will make the champagne pop in car dealerships.
- Imported new cars: 4,045 units ( -15.7% MM, -15.9% YY ). This is a serious signal: the market has shrunk by almost 16% compared to February last year. The VAT on electric cars is taking its toll. Last month, a little more than a hundred of them were purchased new.
- Made in Ukraine: 148 pcs. ( +24.4% MM, +10.4% YY ). While imports are falling, “locals” are showing growth. However, a share of 3.5% of the total market does not yet allow us to speak of a significant impact on the landscape.
Top 10 brands: Toyota and all the others
This February was a successful one for Toyota, which has actually "cemented" its status as the leader. Almost every fifth car sold in the country is a Toyota (810 units). The success of the RAV4 and Land Cruiser Prado looks phenomenal: the first remains the absolute favorite, and the second confidently holds third place in the overall model standings.
Renault and Skoda continue their positional struggle for the mass buyer. Demand for the Duster is consistently high, which allows Renault to breathe on the back of Skoda, whose Kodiaq and Karoq crossovers remain the basis of the Czech brandʼs sales.
Changing landscape: BYD exits chat
An interesting symptom of the February market is the cooling of interest in Chinese electric cars. In particular, BYD, which became the winner in the 2025 rating, and was also present in the top ten in the January cut, this time dropped to the invisible 14th position on the slide. Thus, the VAT on electric cars and barriers to exporting cars from China did their job.
Also included in the list of key players in this segment are Hyundai and Volkswagen, which demonstrate stable performance within 270–290 units, without making sharp movements in either direction.
Model range: SUV dominance
The main trend of February 2026 is total crossoverization. In the top ten most popular models, 9 out of 10 positions belong to representatives of the SUV segment. The only sedan that has retained its presence in the top seems to be an exception rather than a sign of a market trend.
Key Players: Pragmatism and Loyalty
- Toyota RAV4 (361 units) remains the benchmark of choice. Despite the overall decline in market activity, the model maintains its leadership thanks to hybrid versions, high liquidity, and a developed service network.
- Renault Duster (294 units) — demonstrates a consistently high result. Its position is explained by the activity of the corporate sector and the demand for the most practical solution in the budget segment.
- Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (220 units) — ranks third in the overall ranking. This is quite atypical for a car of this class, indicating a high concentration of pent-up demand for the updated model this month.
There is tight competition in the mid-size crossover group:
- The Hyundai Tucson (177 units) and Mazda CX-5 (161 units) remain the main options for the private audience looking for a balance between price and comfort.
- Interesting parity: Volkswagen Touareg and Skoda Kodiaq ended February with identical results — 120 units each. It is noteworthy that the much more expensive Touareg is not inferior to the more affordable Kodiaq in terms of the number of registrations, which indicates the resilience of the premium segment to general market fluctuations.
- Skoda Karoq (111 units) and Suzuki S-Cross (71 units) close the list of the most popular crossovers, maintaining their share in the compact class.
The last sedan
- Toyota Camry (65 units) — closes the top 10. It is the only representative of the classic sedan body style that has remained in the leaders. All other traditional models (including the Skoda Octavia) are currently outside the top ten.
Luxury segment: during the shortest month of the year, Ukrainians bought 1 Bentley, 1 Maserati, 2 Aston Martins, and 38 Porsches. The latter are no longer a luxury, but a stable investment in pleasure, which in Ukraine is not afraid of any February frosts.
Among new passenger cars that were registered as manufactured in Ukraine (quantitatively included in the overall rating), the leader last month was the Skoda Karoq crossover (106 units), which is produced at the Transcarpathian Eurocar plant.
