Experts from the Institute for Automotive Market Research analyzed vehicle registration statistics in Ukraine and identified the most popular models in three bus segments: used import, domestic resale, and new purchase.
Bus market dynamics
During August 2025, Ukrainian carriers purchased 604 new and used buses. This is 11.4% more compared to July of this year, and 1% more compared to August 2024.
By individual subsegments, the comparative dynamics of bus sales is as follows:
- Domestic resales: +8.5% MM, −17.9% YY
- Used imports: +1.1% MM, +27.5% YY
- New imports: −24.1% MM, +46.7% YY
- Made in Ukraine: +50.7% MM, +126.0% YY
Most of the buses were purchased on the domestic market : 381 units, which amounted to 63.1% of the total.
14.6% of used buses, or 88 units, were brought from abroad.
Also last month, 135 new buses were registered for the first time: 113 of these were manufactured or re-equipped in Ukraine ( 18.7% ), the remaining 22 units (3.6%) arrived from abroad.
The most popular buses on the domestic market
The leader in domestic resales remains buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with 98 units purchased. A significant portion of these vehicles were converted into passenger buses from trucks at one time.
In second place is BAZ A079 "Etalon" with a result of 32 cars. In third place is VDL Citea LLE (24 units).
The most popular used buses imported from abroad
In August 2025, buses based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (18 units) also won the championship in this subsegment.
Second place went to buses based on the Volkswagen Crafter (14 units), third place went to VDL Ambassador, 8 of which arrived.

The most popular new buses
The first place in the subsegment of new passenger vehicles went to ZAZ A08 I-VAN with a total of 30 first registrations.
The second place in this ranking is the Baz A081 Etalon, with a total of 22 vehicles sold. Third place went to the Ataman buses, models A-093 and A-092, each of which found buyers in the amount of seven.
Among used buses, the leader remains the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The modelʼs popularity is explained by its compactness, reliability and relatively affordable price (when compared to "real" tourist or city buses. And even if it is far from the standard of comfort for passengers, it is still better to ride in a "bus" than to walk proudly.
The situation in the new bus segment is dynamic: the leader changes every month, but mostly local manufacturers remain in the top, offering competitive solutions at an affordable price and taking into account the peculiarities of the Ukrainian market.
