Cars from China: which new and used models were purchased most often in April?

Ukrainian motorists still do not have a unified opinion regarding Chinese-made cars.

For some, itʼs a cheaper alternative with good equipment. For others, itʼs a "dark horse" thatʼs better to avoid due to stereotypes (and sometimes quite fair opinions) about quality or maintainability.

However, reality is gradually setting its sights. Despite some skepticism, the share of Chinese cars in the Ukrainian car fleet is growing — mainly in the new sales segment, as well as in the import of used models and domestic resales.

While consumers are finally deciding on their attitude towards the "Chinese", we decided to look at the facts: which cars from China (made there) are Ukrainians buying and in which segments. So, what do the numbers say?

Used car market

In April 2025, the share of passenger cars produced in China in the structure of domestic resales was 1.4%.

The most popular model in this segment was the Volkswagen ID.4 Crozz, a Chinese-made electric crossover.

Despite the familiar brand, this version has a number of known problems : multimedia system failures, unstable air conditioning, a GB/T charging port, as well as limited interface functionality without intervention — the appearance of language, maps and navigation often requires replacing the unit. And yet, this model is the leader in the segment — apparently, due to the recognizable logo, modern appearance and relatively affordable price. 88 such cars were resold per month.

In second place is Geely CK with 54 units, and the top three is rounded out by Chery QQ (45 units).

The average age of cars in this segment is 9 years.

Another part of the market for used cars with mileage that have a "Made in China" plate is the first registrations of used cars imported from abroad, where China was the manufacturer.

Here the share is even lower — 1%, but the models are of a completely different kind.

The Zeekr 001 (34 units) is in the lead, representing a new generation of premium Chinese electric vehicles.

In second place is the MG ZS (18 cars), and in third place is the Zeekr 7X with 17 registered units.

The average age in this segment is 3 years, which indicates the superiority of modern technologies and the import of young electric cars.

New car market

The situation looks much more active in the market for new passenger cars of Chinese origin.

In April 2025, their share was 14% of all first registrations — this is already every seventh new car registered in Ukraine.

The absolute leader was the BYD Song Plus model with 174 registrations. This is a crossover with a hybrid or fully electric powertrain, which demonstrates a good balance between price, equipment and modern design.

In second place is Zeekr 001 (62 units), which is confidently establishing itself as a representative of the new "elite China".

Third place went to the Audi Q4 — assembled in China for global markets, including Europe — with 56 registrations.

Such dynamics confirm: in the new car segment, Chinese production has long ceased to be exclusively "about Chinese brands".

Chinese-made cars remain a notable, but not decisive, part of the Ukrainian car market.

Their share is currently modest in the secondary market, but among new cars, Chinese assembly appears quite often in first registration documents.
