What cars are offered more often in Ukraine? Results of January 2025

Specialists of the Institute of Car Market Research processed data from the aggregator Automoto.ua and identified the 15 most popular models of used cars with the most ads on Ukrainian online resources for selling automotive equipment. Only newly created offers were taken into account, with duplicates that could be found on several electronic bulletin boards being filtered out.

What is offered for sale most often?

It is clear that supply cannot be completely correlated with demand, but since demand shapes supply, for the most part the lists on one side and the other (i.e. rankings by the number of ads and rankings by the number of cars actually purchased) are quite similar. This review, in which we summarize the results of January 2025, is no exception.

The leader in terms of the largest number of offers was the Volkswagen Passat — 6,024 ads (12.2% of all offers). The Volkswagen Golf is the second most popular model, offered in 5,500 variants, which gives a share of 11.4%. The third place goes to the model, which is often considered a “compromise” between the relatively expensive Passat and the somewhat more modest Golf in terms of dimensions — the Skoda Octavia. The Czech model entered the top three, the share of each of which exceeds 10%, with 5,200 variants to choose from.

Average mileage

The issue of mileage in used cars is still a subject of debate. It is also known that the vast majority of cars listed in ads, regardless of age, have a declared mileage of about 200 thousand km. Although this time the numbers are noticeably higher than usual. For example, the leader in this indicator was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class — 301 thousand km. Not far behind this business sedan (or station wagon) is another representative of the same group — the Audi A6 with a result of 267 thousand km. The leader of the rating by the number of ads, the Volkswagen Passat, is offered with an average mileage of 260 thousand km.

Even if we assume (for which there is every reason) that the average mileage for these cars is actually even higher, this will not change the popularity among Ukrainian buyers of middle and business class models, even if their age exceeds 20 years. These cars will remain a relevant product on the Ukrainian "secondary" market for a long time.

Interestingly, in this list, the VAZ 2107 has the lowest average mileage, only 139 thousand km. And this despite the fact that the model was discontinued more than 10 years ago, and the oldest copies are long over 40 years old. The closest to the “ correct psychological mark” this time was the Daewoo Lanos — 196 thousand km. A similar figure is also in the Ford Focus — 209 thousand.

Average age

The actual average age of cars that most often undergo the process of re-registration to a new owner is about 16 years. Therefore, it seems that despite the availability of offers with older (=cheaper) options, buyers are still mostly focused on cars that are younger than those present in the array of ads.

The youngest of the 15 models listed here is the Ford Focus, with an average age of 14.6 years. This model owes its age to a significant number of cars from the United States, which helped it to “rejuvenate” so much. The oldest on the list is the VAZ 2106, 37.3 years old, but this is not surprising: the car went on sale back in 1976.

Average prices

The highest average prices among the mentioned models are the BMW 5 Series — $7,350, the Audi A4 — $7,100, and the Skoda Octavia — $6,850. At the same time, the cheapest are the VAZ 2106 with an average price of $691, the VAZ 2107 — $940, and the VAZ 2109 — $1,000.

We remind you that the overall average price in offers is currently trending downward, and according to the results of January it is $6,000. You can learn more about the price picture of the Ukrainian secondary car market from a separate study available at this link.
