Every year, our fleet is replenished with newer models of electric vehicles, which in turn have sufficient battery capacity to avoid the need for daily recharging, as was the case with the variants of the early years of production. That is, the renewal of the electric vehicle fleet leads to the fact that the factor of "tying" to a home (or garage) outlet, which was extremely necessary for models with a battery capacity of about 20 kWh, which was enough for a day or two of travel, is less and less felt.
This factor has been holding back the development of the electric vehicle segment — the number of potential buyers with access to a connection point is limited. Instead, the network of public “chargers” capable of charging electric vehicles relatively quickly with direct current is expanding, which provides new opportunities for the battery-powered car segment.
Where did this information come from? We studied the set of models in the Ukrainian electric vehicle fleet and determined that about 40% of its residents have batteries with a capacity of over 50 kWh, so they can be safely classified as "long-range", or at least those suitable for interregional trips.
- Find out what electric cars are present in Ukraine, what age, in what quantity and in which region, how many of them arrived in previous years, where they are manufactured, what classes they belong to, and a lot of other useful information — order access to the interactive dashboard from the Institute for Research on the Auto Market "Electric Vehicle Fleet in Ukraine"!
Of course, here potential buyers are faced with a confrontation between two factors: charge the car at a household rate, which provides maximum savings (for which a home outlet is required), or switch to an electric car not only because of its economy, but also because of another, new quality of drive: the absence of noise and vibrations, dynamic acceleration, instant response to the accelerator pedal, stepless acceleration without the participation of the gearbox and clutch, and sometimes also a good set of driver assistance systems and a wide list of optional equipment.
At the same time, even if you charge such a car exclusively at EV charging stations (electric charging stations), the savings factor does not disappear: with an average consumption of 20 kWh per 100 km of run, such a distance will cost a maximum of 350 UAH. The least expensive option for a not very large passenger car equipped with gas cylinder equipment will cost (at 12 l/100 km of propane-butane mixture) 440 UAH. And this is still a rather optimistic value, usually in practice cars with LPG require more fuel.
So, why charge at public chargers? Experts from the Institute for Automotive Market Research collected information from mobile applications of leading network EV charging stations in Ukraine and selected the most frequently repeated price values. Depending on the location, lower or higher tariffs may occur — this should be clarified in the relevant EV charging station operatorsʼ applications. Letʼs note that this information is provided for reference purposes — this is not a rating of EV charging stations, but only a guideline for those who have or plan to purchase an electric vehicle.
Compared to the previous month, due to changes in tariffs of individual operators, the gap between the price of slow and fast charging has increased — three operators reduced tariffs for AC current shipment, two operators increased tariffs for DC charging format. Otherwise, there are no noteworthy changes.
The average price of a kilowatt-hour received through the AC port is currently (rounded) 14 UAH, through the DC port — 16.7 UAH.
If you are a representative of an EV charging station operator that is not on the slide, please let us know about it, as well as your main tariffs. If your company is listed, we will be happy to receive monthly information about prices from you, which we will publish on our pages. And let us remind you once again that now there is an opportunity to get access to a unique interactive dashboard from the IDA "Electric Vehicle Fleet in Ukraine" — find out what electric cars are available in your and other regions in order to better plan the development of the EV charging station network in accordance with the needs and prospects of the fleet.
