The motorcycle market is in high season! What did Ukrainians buy in April?

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of motorcycle registrations in April and identified the most popular models in three segments: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new motorcycles.

Dynamics of the motorcycle market

The motorcycle segment is getting closer to peaking its high season — without even looking at the numbers, just a cursory glance at the chart, itʼs pretty easy to come to that conclusion.

Now, actually, about the numbers: in April, Ukrainians bought 6.7 thousand of all motorcycles. This is 16.5% more than in the same period last year, and 13.3% more than in March 2024.

Among the total number, 47.2% of motorcycles were new (imported from abroad), which is 3157 units. Usually, in the motor vehicle segment, the majority of deals are sales of new vehicles, but in the past few months, this "tradition" has been broken, and currently the share of new ones has not yet reached the volume to obtain a "controlling stake", which is likely to happen in the following periods.

On the domestic market, 3,035 motor vehicle purchase and sale agreements were concluded, which accounted for 45.7% of the total number.

Only 7.5% of motorcycles were imported used from abroad (500 units).

We remind you that the numbers given here are obtained from the accounting of official sales agreements and first registrations. The "shadow" part of the motorcycle market (in particular, the secondary market) remains outside the scope of this review. According to IDA experts, it can be quite significant — even equal to, or even greater than, the official part.

The average age of motorcycles on the market (as of April) was 11.5 years for those resold domestically and 13.4 years for motorcycles submitted for first registration after customs clearance.

The most popular motorcycles in the domestic market

In the domestic market, the Japanese brands Honda and Yamaha, as well as the Chinese Lifan, and two more Japanese brands — Suzuki and Kawasaki — prevailed among motorcycle manufacturers in the specified period. Five of these manufacturers occupy 44% of the market in the segment.

On the domestic market, sales contracts were most often concluded in April for Lifan LF (182 units), Loncin LX (104 units), and Musstang MT (96 units).

The most popular used motorcycles brought from abroad

In the import segment, there were again not enough manufacturers to make up the classic twenty most popular. However, the situation will change in the coming months, because we are approaching the peak season in the segment. In general, imports of motorcycles with mileage continue to be held by the Japanese brands Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and the American Harley-Davidson. The products of these five manufacturers cover 82.7% of the market (that is, almost all) imported "motos".

Among individual models, Honda CB (30 units), Kawasaki Ninja (24 units), Honda CBF (18 units), Honda CBR (20 units) and Yamaha MT series (19 units) were most often submitted for the first state registration.

The most popular new motorcycles

New motorcycles of Chinese manufacturers are mainly bought in Ukraine: in April, the brands Spark Lifan and Musstang once again became the leaders.

Among new motorcycle models in Ukraine, Spark SP-series holds the lead (419 units), Musstang MT (310 units) took second place, and Lifan LF (228 units) took third place (also without changes compared to previous periods).

Loncin LX-series (215 units) and Shineray XY-series (128 units) are also among the top five new bikes.
