The new car market: the largest volumes of trades from 2021
Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in March 2024, described the market dynamics and identified the 20 most popular new passenger cars of the month.
Dynamics of the new car market
In March, Ukrainians bought almost 6,500 new passenger cars. This is 9.4% more than in February of the same year, and 28.8% more than in March 2023. After a gradual "subsidence" (which can be seen in the diagram), the market of new passenger cars shows an increase in volumes for the second month in a row. To date, this is the largest number of new cars submitted for first registration, which has not been seen since January 2022 — the largest number before that was recorded in December 2021 — 10.9 thousand.
The majority of new cars in March ( 95.6%, 6169 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits amounted to 4.4% (281 units).
Buyers of new cars were mostly individuals (66.1%, 4266 units), legal entities bought 2184 cars (33.9%).
The largest number of new cars were registered last month in the city of Kyiv (2,549 units, 39.5%) and the Kyiv region (730 units, 11.3%) — which traditionally accounts for more than half of the total volume of the new passenger car market. Also in the leaders are Dnipropetrovsk (466 units, 7.2%), Lviv (373 units, 5.8%) and Odesa (357 units, 5.5%) regions.
The fewest new cars were registered in Kherson (11), Donetsk (17), Volyn (61), Chernivtsi (72), and Ternopil (74) regions. Luhansk region again falls into statistical samples with a zero result.
