The Chinese crossover remains the leader in sales of new cars. October results

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in October 2023, described the market dynamics and identified the 20 most popular new passenger cars of the month.

Dynamics of the new car market

In October, Ukrainians bought 5.5 thousandnew cars. This is slightly more (by 1.8% ) than in September 2023, and significantly more, by as much as 92%, than in October 2022. In total, from the beginning of the year to October 31, 2023, Ukrainians registered 51,600 new cars for the first time, which is 59.2% more than in the same period of 2022.

Most new cars in October ( 92.9%, 5,457 units) were imported from abroad. The share of passenger cars manufactured in Ukraine by the method of large-unit assembly or converted from imported machine kits was 7.1% (415 units).

Buyers of new cars in October were mostly individuals (67.8%, 3,984 units), legal entities bought 1,888 cars (32.2%).

The largest number of new cars last month were registered in the city of Kyiv (2,167 units, 36.9%), Kyiv region (736 units, 12.5%) — which accounts for almost half of all volumes (49.4%) of the new car market in October Dnipropetrovsk region (500 units, 8.5%), Odesa region (357 units, 6.1%) and Lviv region (320 units, 5.4%) are also among the leaders.

The fewest new cars were registered in Luhansk (7 units) , Kherson (8 units), Donetsk (19 units) , Zaporizhia (56 units) and Chernivtsi (63 units) regions.

The most popular new imported cars

Most often in October, as quite often in previous months, buyers of new cars chose Toyota (887 units, 15.1%). Second place went to Volkswagen (596 units, 10.1%).

BMW (460 units, 7.8%) conceded one step, allowing Skoda (478 units, 8.1%) to regain the previously lost third position. Rounding out the top five is Renault (368 units, 6.3%).

The first position in the rating of new cars continues to be held by the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover, 355 of which were purchased. All of them (with the exception of one copy produced in Europe) are the Chinese version of the electric crossover, which is manufactured in Foshan (FAW-Volkswagen plant) under the name ID.4 Crozz and Antin (SAIC Volkswagen plant, under the name ID.4 X). That is, the leadership in the Ukrainian market is currently occupied by a Chinese electric car, which is supplied by independent or multi-brand dealers.

Second place, as last month, is occupied by Toyota RAV-4 (339 units). Renault Duster (249 units) fell to the third step. Nissan Qashqai took fourth place (218 units), BMW X5 took fifth place (156 units).

At the same time, the trend towards crossovers will continue to persist on the market: the majority of them in the top 20 will continue to be 15 regular purpose and one police car.

Among the new passenger cars manufactured or converted in Ukraine and registered in September, the most popular was the Renault Duster police car (132 units), as well as the Skoda Kodiaq (129 units) and Skoda Karoq (58 units), which are manufactured at the Transcarpathian factory "Evrocar» by the method of large-node assembly.
