HBO: gas prices are rising, conversion rates are decreasing

Amid the economy, Ukrainians continue to convert their cars to gas, but the numbers speak for themselves — enthusiasm has cooled. In April 2025 , 931 installations of gas cylinder equipment (GBO) on passenger cars were registered in Ukraine, which is 7.4% less than in March, and almost half as much as exactly a year ago — in April 2024 there were 1,754 such conversions.

Demand for HBO: dynamics are slowing down

The highest activity of Ukrainian drivers in converting their cars to gas was observed last summer. In June 2023, a record was set — 2,253 LPG systems, the data on which were officially entered into registration certificates at the service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Since autumn, the figures began to decline, in winter they fell below 1,000 registrations, and it still looks like this market does not show much hope for growth.

Which cars were most often filled with gas in April?

The conversion covers both budget models and cars (often from the USA) of the middle price segment. And although the list includes the traditional Daewoo Lanos, next to it are the Toyota Camry, Nissan Rogue, Jeep Compass and other American variants with atmospheric gasoline engines, which without HBO often lose their meaning of operation in Ukraine. Here, both faith in the "old school" of motorcycle construction and unwillingness to put up with high fuel consumption are imposed.

Top 10 models on which HBO was most often installed :

  1. Toyota Camry — 29 pcs.
  2. Nissan Rogue — 26 pcs.
  3. Jeep Compass — 24 pcs.
  4. Skoda Octavia — 22 pcs.
  5. Jeep Cherokee — 21 pcs.
  6. Volkswagen Passat — 21 pcs.
  7. Mitsubishi Outlander — 19 pcs.
  8. Toyota RAV4 — 18 pcs.
  9. Daewoo Lanos — 17 pcs.
  10. Volkswagen Golf — 17 pcs.

How much does a propane-butane mixture cost now?

LPG for cars is not as cheap as it was a year ago, but it is still more profitable than gasoline. As of the end of April , the average price of liquefied gas at gas stations is 34.80 UAH/l, while at the beginning of the year it reached 37 UAH/l. For comparison, last spring, price tags of about 26.50 UAH/l could be seen on gas station shelves.

So, despite the decline in interest in installing LPG, the use of liquefied gas remains one of the options for saving on fuel, especially for large gasoline engines. However, LPG loses to electric vehicles, even if they are charged only at paid high-speed public access stations.
